SABINILLAS - Just 2 minutes drive from the apartment to Sabinillas, a traditional Spanish fishing town. Seafront promenade lined with restaurants, tapas bars and bars and a long sandy beach and fishermans boats. Sabinillas has a market on Fridays and Sunday morning.

DUQUESA (full name PUERTO DE LA DUQUESA) - Walk from Sabinillas is Duquesa, centered around a marina lined with bars and restaurants. Boat trips,  fishing trips or watersports from the marina. Duquesa is flanked by long uncrowded, sandy beaches.

ESTEPONA - A 10 minute drive from Casares  to Estepona, with beach promenade and marina. Restaurants and bars in Estepona Port and old Estepona. Markets Wednesday and Sunday. Estepona has a nightclub and bars.

CASARES VILLAGE - A 10 minute drive from Casares into the Andalucian hills up winding roads to the traditional white Spanish village of Casares - virtually untouched by tourism. Wander through the tiny streets and climb to the Arab battlements. Read more on Casares village.

SOTOGRANDE - Sotogrande is the largest privately owned resort in Andalucia, built up since 1962. Centred around a marina with restaurants, bars and shops, and beaches. Sotogrande is famous for golf and polo fields.

PUERTO BANUS - A 20 minute drive from Casares to glitzy Puerto Banus, with the most famous marina in Europe. Home to the rich and famous on the Costa del Sol. Surrounded by designer shops, boutiques and bars. Enjoy a stroll next to the luxury yachts and boats.

MARBELLA - Next to Puerto Banus and another jet set haven of the Costa del Sol. Marbella has beach, esplanade, designer shops, bars, restaurants and some of the finest tapas bars in Andalucia. See old Marbella around 'The Orange Square'.

GIBRALTAR - A piece of Britain in the sun with duty free shopping in Gibraltar. Visit the Rock of Gibraltar, St Michaels cave and see the famous Barbary apes in the wild and Gibraltar's new marina. Passports needed.

LA LINEA - At the foot of Gibraltar and part of mainland Spain is La Linea. Boat trips from the La Linea marina into the Starits of Gibraltar, one of the places to see dolphins swimming wild. Large pods of dolphins live in these clean waters between Spain, Gibraltar and Morocco.

RONDA - Drive 50 minutes into the heart of Andalucia up the tortuous, scenic road through the mountain range to Ronda. Or catch a train from Algeciras to Ronda. Ronda has dramatic escarpments and the deep El Tajo gorge.

MORROCO, North Africa - Drive 30 minutes from Casares apartment to Tarifa in Southern Spain for the ferry to Tangiers in Morroco, just 20 minutes for the 9km crossing.
